I think this means when you are born you get freedom and if you slip up you get jail, that is when Nas says "Freedom or jail". Also I think when Nas says " A babys being born same time my man is murdered the beggening and end", I think he means you began to live your life the way you want then there is rough times ahead and you could end all your freedom and be left with nothing.

I think this lyric is related to "The Great Gatsby" It refers to all of the people in the book but mostly to Gatsby because He started out with freedom was doing really well until the past came back and killed his freedom! It also relates to "The Great Gatsby", by they all start out with freedom and a lot of them do not get to see life anymore and die.

I think The American Dream is you just live life and make the best of it. It doesnt really matter if your rich or poor just live life to the fullest. I also think you should always try to succeed but if you cant don't stop trying just try harder!
